Satin and Lace

Of all the things Sally could imagine Hugh Barrington saying to her, she would never have believed that she would be having such a conversation with her former boss:

'Who would guess that you were a Human Resources Manager?'

'Not for much longer,' Sally said acidly. 'Or are you forgetting?'

`Sally? Stop being so dramatic.' Hugh placed a hand on her arm. 'Listen,' he said reassuringly, 'and don't say a word until I've finished. We haven't got time to discuss our feelings now. 1 want you to be my mistress, Sally.'

Sally shuddered at the mere connotation of the word 'mistress' and looked Hugh straight in the eye. 'Don't you want to try the goods first, before you commit yourself?'

Disregarding the acerbic tone of her voice, Hugh enquired flatly, `Shall I interpret that as a 'yes' then?'
