Ten-year-old Toni Lindeman amazes audiences at the Hollywood Bowl when she plays the Prokofiev piano concerto. A year later, tragedy strikes. Toni watches in horror as a crazed gunman breaks into her Beverly Hills home, killing her mother and gravely wounding her. Paul Lindeman returns from work to find his wife dead and his daughter's life hanging in the balance. In deep shock, Toni cannot remember her music. With his daughter in therapy, Paul leaves California to find a new life in Washington State's San Juan Islands-far from his heartbreaking loss. In the islands, Toni finds healing through a horse named Dream and her equestrian trainer, Katie McDowell. Toni comes to understand that her music is not lost but waiting for her to pass through darkness into light, and Paul discovers that he can live in joy once more as he comes to know and love Katie.
