Many young boys have a dog as their constant companion. Eleven-year-old Sterling North has a raccoon named Rascal. Rascal and Sterling do everything together—from winning a pie-eating contest to fishing for trout in the Wisconsin forests.
It would have been perfect—if only Rascal weren't so clever. The day comes when Rascal is too smart for his own good. Sterling must make a difficult choice —either cage his beloved raccoon or take him away and let him go free.
