About This Book

The village of Farmers Tye is noted for an ancient figure carved into the hillside showing Mary and a baby Jesus. Two hundred years ago a convent was established in the village to glorify the figure. The local Council is organizing a garden party to celebrate the convent's big birthday. But all is not well on the hillside. The trees framing Mary are wilting and need to be felled leaving behind the rest of the carving. It turns out that it is not Mary and Jesus at all but a primitive giant, erect and ready for action, known in olden times as Old Tom.This throws preparations for the garden party into a spin with different churches, pagan greybeards and new age travellers all jostling for the ear of the Council. Entertainment has been arranged for the party including craft stalls, a brass band, the convent choir, a farmer's market and a flypast. The event will even be opened by a Duchess. As the day dawns, things begin to unravel under the brooding influence of the figure carved into the hill.
