Burnt-out Russian literature professor Matthew Eastman walks into his office one chilly afternoon and discovers that he has "forgotten" the most recent year of his life: It is now 2005, not 2004. He must live 2005 as if nothing was wrong, while trying to retrieve 2004. Hypnotherapist Joan Lindall helps him walk the dark terrain of his missing year. They reach the point in 2004 when Matthew begins his research on "The Master and Margarita," a Russian satire that includes elements of black magic. Enter the mysterious Benedict ("bene" and "dicere" - "to speak well of") Knight, a brilliant, young idiot savant who becomes Matthew's research assistant. During Matthew's forays into 2004, he discovers other areas of his life that he has "forgotten." Do these jagged pieces fit and form a whole?
