A free luxury cruise down California’s coast sounds too good to be true to Silicon Valley bio-chemists Laura and Burke Halford, but elderly friends Viola Pierce and Harland Coops disagree. The trip is an incentive to wealthy seniors to sign over their holdings in exchange for a secure future at Nepenthe’s assisted-living apartments or nursing-home, a golden haven. When Viola dies on the cruise’s first night out after signing, Harland suspects foul play and moves into the apartments. In the nursing home, Laura befriends old Elizabeth Raines who dies suddenly. Investigating, she’s caught, drugged, and taken to Nepenthe’s rehab center where Dr. Wilburn attempts to silence her. Kevin Wiley, theatrical make-up artist disguised as Harland’s brother, enters the nursing home where the nurse attempts to smother him with a pillow. Is this how Viola and Elizabeth died? When Harland becomes a murder suspect, the golden haven turns gray. No one is safe.
