About This Book

Everyone who has lived through the Second World War has a story to tell, a personal story of how he or she lived through those five long years of misery, hunger and fear. 'Mirror Images' describes some of those years but it is not a book principally about the war. It tells of the transition of a laid-back, caring, socially interactive way of life of a people into a frenetic mindset where the acquisition of material possessions becomes of paramount importance. Humanitarian tenets that had been held sacrosanct for centuries were indiscriminately cast aside in favour of materialism. The script, sympathetic and humorous does not condemn the resultant struggle but poses the argument that material gain does not necessarily equate with personal happiness.
