Love in a Chinese Garden

An adaptation of a medieval Chinese love story follows two young lovers who must overcome the obstacles of an ambitious mother, an arranged marriage, separation, and danger to find true happiness together.

he news of a marauding group of mutinous soldiers forces the young and beautiful Oriole and her family to seek refuge in a countryside monastery. Resigned to spending months behind its wall, Oriole comes to enjoy the lush and peaceful garden of the monastery -- as well as the presence of Zhang, a student who is also a guest.

Although Oriole is already engaged -- to a man chosen by her family -- she falls in love with Zhang, and they begin a secret affair. As the new lovers explore the passion of their forbidden union, Oriole's mother sets a plan in motion to separate them forever....
