About This Book

Jagged Blind Hop Zozzle is a roaring twenties tale about a love triangle that ends in Tragedy. In the summer of 1928, an Amherst Professor takes a sabbatical in order to live in Paris and write a novel. However, once in Paris he finds, through his Aunt's connections, everyone from Josephine Baker and her Danse de banane to F. Scott Fitzgerald, King Vidor, James and Nora Joyce and two aristocratic French twins. Our hero is enthralled by Paris, by the twins and their mother Eugenie, as well as her brutishly handsome illegal immigrant lover from Romania. Our professor pitches ideas for his novel to F. Scott Fitzgerald, learns the art of Parisian party bavardage, and finds experiences physical passion for the first time in his life. The novel culminates in a tragedy, and our professor leaves Paris, a man without a novel or love, and returns to the life he had hoped to leave behind. Rich with Mark Simpson's sense of place and ability to capture the nuance of characters, haunting sensuality, profound wit and the beauty of summer Paris, Jagged Blind Hop Zozzle is a tour de force: a superb novel about the soul smashing power of passion.
