Terry had brought her to Madison, all the way from Colorado, in order for her to be safe. He made Uncle Will swear not to tell anyone where he was going. When Uncle Will hung up the phone a minute later, he wiped his forehead with his handkerchief and filled a smudged glass with water from the sink's tap. "Little darlin', I don't know how much longer I can keep this up ..." While Penny is busy with the Christmas pageant at school and Mrs. Vetter is in the doldrums over a broken relationship, Annette is feeling extra lonely. Their holiday get-away has been postponed because one of Annette's Holsteins is getting ready to calve. Annette and Penny finally get to check out the local landmark they've been dying to investigate - the old abandoned tower - and discover another mystery to solve, involving a missing girl.
