It's the height of the hunting season in the rugged Alaskan bush country. Experienced hunters Kate Shugak and Jack Morgan are hired to help guide an expedition of German businessmen. To Kate's dismay, these overeager hunters want to kill not for food or sport, but simply for the sake of killing. And no sooner does the hunting begin than one of the Germans is shot and killed, seemingly by accident. One accident leads to another, and as the bodies start piling up, Kate realizes that someone in the party isn't satisfied with hunting wildlife--and unless she can track down the killer, it's open season for murder...
