About This Book

I really enjoyed this book. It shows how life was back in Crockett's day and what a different picture of that life than the one you get from Hollywood. Crockett was dirt poor as was life in his day for most. He didn't seem to mind living in one room stick huts with dirt floors. Some of these homes being occupied by 8 or more men, women and children. This was early America, not the stereotypical view we get from the movies. I found it interesting that the author never used the names of any of Crocketts immediate family - wife and children. It was as if they were either unknown to the author or didn't seem to matter. It was like that with many of the characters in that Crockett knew - the "pirate," the "bee-hunter." I also found it interesting remembering the last Hollywood depiction of Crockett as somewhat of a coward. Here's a man who hunts bear, killing some with his knife and wanders around Tennessee alone and in the company of wild Indians. I can't imagine him being cowardly. Anyway, this is a good book and an easy and enjoyable read and, best of all
