Hattie's Secrets is a mystery novel with three mystery stories. In The Lifesaving Quilt, Hattie makes changes after her husband's funeral. To her chagrin she and her new friends become witnesses, having heard two gunshots one Friday evening. In Local Folklore, Hattie uncovers damaging information while in the library researching a group of documentaries who have come to Chalice, Texas to film the "famous," but apparently unknown, ghost of Chalice. In the Mole, Hattie is asked to help uncover problems at the lcoal manufacturing plant since she has shown a proclivity to notice things that others miss. She agrees to try but has no idea how to even start, but a minor triumph on her first day gives her a small glimmer of hope that she can at least help a little.
The three mystery stores each contain a unique story line but with the same main characters and an overall ongoing story line running from start to finish. True to real life, there is some cross over between the three stories. Television dramas usually solve their dilemma by the end of their allotted air time. In our imperfect world the receipt of the DNA and ballistices test results may be received months later. There may be two years or more from commission of the crime to the guilty verdict, so in this novel, the end is left hanging, at least into the next story.
Lynn Vadney's novels are written in a truly unique style, defying the usual genres of fiction. Because the telling of her tale is not offensive, her novels are labeled Christian fiction, but her plots are vibrant with twists and turns of the story keeping the reader in suspense until the final revelations. Whatever is included in the tale, whether religous or worldly, is there for character developement of to further the plot. Lynn's novels are just pure, clean, fun!
