Foreign Body

Martin is a slob. The only thing more leaden than his flagging ambition is the bulging beer gut that hangs over his belt. But for all his shortcomings, he’s no criminal. Martin’s worst felony before his trip to Thailand was the occasional theft of pens and sticky notes from the stationery cupboard at work.

Now all that has changed. Martin is a fat man running scared in a foreign land. He’s carrying six kilograms of the purest heroin South East Asia has to offer and the jagged stitches across his belly hide a terrible secret. If his pursuers catch him, they will kill him.

Martin flees north into the beautiful but impoverished country of Laos where he finds sanctuary with the Akha, a tribe of seemingly primitive and superstitious hill dwellers that live deep in the jungle. As Martin’s pursuers gather in the lowlands and danger stalks him in the mountains, he quickly realizes there is much he can learn from an ancient people who have mastered the art of survival in a harsh and savage land.
