About This Book

HILLARY NORTHRUP, the owner of LEAVES AND GROUNDS, a quaint coffee and tea shoppe located on the banks of the Brazos River in Bryan, Texas, is called to police headquarters to identify a box of inventory that was found at a warehouse during a police raid. Since this is the box she was expecting all week, she wonders about the box delivered to 'The Leaves and Grounds' earlier that morning.

Her employee, INEZ, opens the box to put the contents away, and she is found murdered that night.

The BARRACUDA is the 'businessman' who had arranged to have his shipment mailed to Hillary's place of business, because he knew the police were going to raid the warehouse. Soon he finds out that his shipment is lost, and thinks Hillary has the goods.

The detective who is investigating Inez' murder, CHASE BRANDON, pays Hillary a visit, but he has to rescue her from an attempt on her life, instead. When Chase learns that the Barracuda is the one behind these attacks, he takes Hillary into protective custody.

Knowing that he can't get to her now, the Barracuda starts to use his brutality on Hillary's friends and Chase's partner. To save his own skin, he must get his shipment back because his buyer is demanding his merchandise.

Fed up with the Barracuda's upper hand because of legalities, Brandon risks his career to put a stop to his illicit drug trade by using the Barracuda's own clever delivery system against him. In the process of outwitting the 'Cuda, however, Hillary loses many things that she holds dear. Could winning Chase's love in the end make up for it all?
