About This Book

Finding America is about the people who occupy six houses on a single street: the widowed mother and her teenage daughter, the married couple struggling to raise three kids on a very fixed income, the newlyweds trying to figure out how to live together. It's about a single firefighter, the teenage boy with abusive parents, and four college students attempting to find their place in society. You could also say it's about a homeless veteran, a truck driver and a little boy. On the surface, all they have in common is a street in middle-class America. Beyond their differences, however, there's much more than that. There are the justifications most people have for keeping to themselves, for keeping their distance from certain people and certain situations. There are also moments when those justifications are set aside, if not entirely forgotten, in light of something greater. This story is about those moments.
