Gr 6 Up This collection of 31 animal stories and excerpts from novels includes many old favorites. There are chapters from The Yearling, Rascal, and The Incredible Journey. Short stories include works by Stephen Crane, Saki, and James Thurber. ``Puss in Boots'' is included to add the fairy tale element. The selection is a good variety of tales and nonfiction, ranging from the more serious story about taking Elsa on a safari to the humor of Mark Twain and a Texas tall tale about painted mules. This is a book to be enjoyed by older readers, as the humor is more adult. Set in 16 pt.
