Fatima Anderson: Journey to Garden City

An overlooked fax from the school board announcing Child Abuse Awareness month was discovered one week later by Mr. Peterson, a 12th grade teacher at Hampton High School. Dr. Johnson, "the inflexible" school principal insisted that the child abuse program take place as scheduled. The next day at eight o'clock a.m., the school board and the news media would arrive. Preparing grade level students to give analogies on child abuse in less than 24 hours wasn't as crucial as Dr. Johnson's cancellation of a school tradition, which sparked a student revolt on campus. But swayed by her imaginings, fourteen-year-old and ninth-grade student Fatima Anderson took on the task of leading abused kids to the magical freedom of "Garden City." The epic dream narration that rescued her schoolmates from riot police batons, clam the hard heartiness of Principal Johnson, and ultimately dispelled an entire community of child abuse.
