About This Book

A country town in Dorset in the fifties, when parking was easy and no one worried about ecology. We meet Joan Falconer, young, languid, and moody. She is a clerk to Dan Hodges, who limps from a D-Day wound and whom she finds more exciting than Richard Prideaux, who expects to marry her. Mr. Hodges is already married; his own sex life leaves something to be desired. But Joan and Richard get along well together and when Joan is being very good, everything in the garden is lovely.
