About This Book

Someone is knocking off those loud-mouthed, debasing radio call-in personalities in major U.S cities. Dead Air, a gripping detective novel features Lt. Anthony DiNapoli of Boston's 23rd Precinct. At the outset, Lt. DiNapoli, interrupted at home during a fine Italian dinner, is summoned to the posh apartment of Leslie Banks, who lies in a pool of blood, quite dead. His body is discovered by Paul Cowan, investigative reporter of the Boston Gazette. The relationship of the two is acerbic; DiNapoli does not like the journalist who runs story after story panning the police and DiNapoli, in particular. DiNapoli and his Sergeant Charlie Mahoney, pursue clue after clue but to no avail. The murder-that of Leslie Banks-turns out to be the first in a series of similar murders of some of the nation's raucous radio personalities. At the radio station WTOC, suspicion falls on Claude Downey, production chief and three associates. But his death by his lover's hand quickly disposes of this belief. Cowan's articles continue to haunt DiNapoli with its insinuations and the naming of others being blackmailed, who might be involved with the murders. DiNapoli continues his pursuit of the Banks murderer, in addition to several new homicides in different cities. In doing so he is almost killed himself by a gangland thug. By clever deduction DiNapoli boils down the murders to a definite suspect and ultimate solution to the heap of murdered talk show hosts. The final curtain goes down in Houston when our hero unmasks the murderer skillfully.
