      Bruce Hamilton, DVM, forensic pathologist, learns that the young daughter of his niece is mutilated and killed. Bruce must resolve old family problems to get her cooperation. Additional deaths with unique skin lesions occur in disparate parts of the country. Suggested causes run from devil worship, satanic cults, to voodoo. The unlawfully discarded waste from a maverick chemist, producing undetectable anabolics for a football team, causes small creatures in the Everglades to grow large and deadly. The formula is believed to be destroyed but a disgruntled chemist steals the formulae to sell to a foe of the U.S.
