Barb and Bobby Foster, husband and wife crime solvers, are faced with another mysterious series of murders, this time on a Native American reservation, where casino money has corrupted the North Branch Band of Potawatomi. Rampant drug use and increasingly promiscuous sexual behavior marks tribe members’ decline into paranoia toward outsiders, adding to their deep-seated and justified distrust of white people. The tribe has created a reclusive subculture with its own police force and judicial system. As if this doesn’t complicate Barb and Bobby’s investigation enough, they learn that the killings were carried out with a prehistoric atlatl dart, a puzzling discovery that draws them deeply into ancient tribal rituals that survive to this day.
