The rough 'n' ready town of New Orleans was like home to John Slocum—especially when he lay in the arms of the lovely Claudine Devereau. So guarding a passel of emeralds for Claudine's father seemed like a simple favor, especially with his friend Texas Jack along for the ride. But the friendly job soon turned deadly—when a lily-livered criminal gang called the Live Oak Boys stole the gems and killed Texas Jack and Claudine.
