Is Luke a long-lost son or a baseborn swindler?

The Blackwelds are a tight-knit family who own the largest cattle ranch in the Arizona Territory. In November 1877, a young, blond cowboy arrives, alleging he is the child stolen from them when he was only three years old.

Elizabeth Blackweld accepts his birthright without question, but her son Jack believes his mother's mind is clouded by her yearning to regain the lost boy. Jack Blackweld, who still carries guilt for losing his little brother, firmly doubts the claim's veracity and is vocal about his desire to expose and drive away the impostor.

When Luke is left for dead on the trail to Bitterbend, will he live long enough for the family to discover the truth? And if he survives, will he be safe, or does danger lurk in Luke's past?
