He didn't know she was alive. Not really--though young Dr. Christopher Gunter always smiled at her and praised her as the best nurse in the hospital. But Lib kept hoping.

Now it was too late. For Stephanie Morrow was back in town--beautiful, sexy Stephanie, with her razzle-dazzle glamour. And he was utterly, adoringly hers. Dr. Chris was one more trophy for Stephanie's collection--all the more precious because Lib wanted him.

Fairfield was a small and somewhat somnolent community. But Nurse Lib Rainey was happy in her work at the County Hospital there. For the town, where she had been brought up and where she still lived with her parents, spelled home to her. And in addition, she was in love with hospital doctor Christopher Gunter.

Unfortunately, Chris, although friendly and appreciative of Lib's competent and dedicated assistance as a nurse, seemed to be completely unaware of her feeling for him. Therefore he did not even know how much he was hurting her when he began to pay court to Lib's beautiful and selfish cousin, who had come back to Fairfield to while away that time between marriages.
