About This Book
There is a "Brighten Burrywood" cleanup campaign in progress. Someone takes that to mean that undesirable residents should be done away with. Diana, editor of the town paper, discovers the shifty mayor dead in his office. The town drunk dies next, and a greedy developer follows.
There are plenty of people for Chief Dutro to suspect. Charlotte, the mayor’s long-suffering wife is one. He had cheated on her in many ways. Mady Ford, the town’s sixty-plus glamour girl, had just been dumped by the two-timing mayor. Sam Patterson and his sister Rose, who now lived in the mansion, each had long-simmering problems with him. Annie, the town’s one homeless person, had been hounded by him. And the chief’s own eccentric eighty-year-old father, Reverend Amos, who sang and preached every day on the streets, might have thought he was receiving divine guidance to rid the town of a nasty nuisance. Only Winona Burrywood, Diana’s best friend who now ran The Clamshack Diner, seemed to escape the chief’s suspicions.
Diana and Winona, the two sages in town, team up to keep the investigation moving in the right direction. They uncover Burrywood history, push people into doing things they should, stimulate a lot of creative thinking and, of course, uncover the truth about the murders.
