About This Book

We first meet Frederick Vance as a Chicago youth. After being orphaned during his early teens, he lives with several relatives to whom he is "Little Freddie." He manages to survive amidst gang activity and swirling political influences within his own family. A few years later, Freddie moves to Indianapolis where he spends a disappointing five years, ending in a climactically dismal week of horror, a week patterned after lines from the song, "Stormy Monday Blues."
