About This Book

John T. Kady left Wheeling, West Virginia, August 20, 1952, for San Francisco to begin his journey to the Far East during the Korean War. He arrived at Camp Stoneman, California, outside San Francisco after a two-week bus ride. Kady and other members of his air police training class left San Francisco on the troop ship U.S.S. Anderson September 20, 1952, bound for Okinawa. After spending two years on Okinawa, he returned to the U.S., where he graduated from West Virginia University in 1959. After graduation, he got a job with United Press International. His first assignment was covering John F. Kennedy, in the 1960 presidential election. During his career, he covered Muhammad Ali during his fight with the Draft Board, and the Silver Bridge collapse, among other major stories. His wire stories were frequently picked up by national network news and relayed to the American public by pre-eminent anchors of the day. John is retired and living in Columbus, Ohio, with his wife Patricia.
