"We bought it last Christmas," Garret replied. He picked up a towel from behind the bar and started wiping down the counter. He gathered up a few bottles and swiped underneath them as well.
"Why didn't you say anything?" Jackson wanted to know.
I wanted to know, too. Garret had never been good at keeping a secret. I looked up at Garret and waited for his explanation.
"We knew it was going to take some fixing and wanted to surprise everyone." Garret looked at me and grinned, "Then Mom said we should just wait until Teensy here graduated." Garret touched the top of my head and ruffled my hair. I looked over at Jackson and smiled, but he wasn't smiling at all. Garret never called me that.
"Teensy?" Mya asked. "What kind of nickname is that?"
I wanted to slap the girl in the mouth, but before I could even really think about it, Garret answered her question.
"When Jackson and Katie met, they were always getting into things, and Katie has always been this small. She was always crawling into little spaces, or inching her way in."
"Since when do you call her that?" Jackson asked. He was irritated. He looked from Garret to me, and then shook his head. Mya noticed the reaction as well as everyone else and watched Jackson closely.
"It's a free country, bro. I can call KK anything I want."
I shook my head at Garret and smiled. "You're a dip, and you know I hate it when you call me KK."
Garret winked and laughed.
"Whatever," Jackson replied.
What the hell was he getting so mad at? He had his girlfriend here at my graduation party…if anyone should be mad it should be…
"I want to dance. Garret?" I asked, fueling the fire a bit more. Garret's eyes momentarily widened, and then he smiled.
"Sure thing, hot stuff." Garret came around the bar and took my hand and led me out onto the makeshift dance floor. I looked up as he put his arms around my back and brought me in close.
"What's his problem?" I asked, annoyed. I could feel every inch of Garret's body pushed up against mine.
"Honey, if you don't know, then I can't help you." Garret moved slowly back and forth to the beat of the music.
"What is this song anyway?"
Garret laughed. "No Idea. It sounds like rap."
