Billie is a Sparrow who gives his bird’s-eye-view of what it is like to be a small bird living in a dangerous world. He has brothers and sisters and, when hatched from their mother’s eggs, they lived together with their mother in her nest. She fed them while they were still young but they grew up and had to fend for themselves, not just finding food, but each sparrow building its own nest and watching out for other birds and animals that might interfere in their lives. It was a challenge for Billie and gave him an adventurous life.
