New York is scary for lots of parents, but it wasn't fears about terrorist attacks or strangers on the subway that impelled single mother Jill Everts off to the suburbs. She had to get Daisy away from the other kids in her playgroup. Darling kiuds bright and beautiful - if you met them one at a time. But together they had powers that seemed to defy the very laws of nature. Maybe for good - maybe for evil. Jill couldn't take a chance. She and Daisy moved to upper Westchester County in New York. It's big enough to have a first-run movie house and a wonderful bookstore, and small enough to feel safe. For a while. Daisy is eight now. She's a great reader, budding novelist, and computer whiz,m so of course she's dismayed when she begins to have trouble reading. Some kids think of glasses as a status symbol - not Daisy. It's as if something crystalline had been destroyed. She breaks her glasses, loses them, even goes through a phase where she claims to hate reading. So Jill is very releived when the director of the gifted kids' program at Daisy's school tells her about an opthamologist who has developed experimentsl contact lenses for young kids.Daisy isn't the only eigh-year-old who endsw up in Dr. Chiaro's protocol. There's another girl, Fiona, and twin brothers, Lewis and David. The rose-colored lenses they all receive seem miraculous. The children are beyond happy. But what they don't know could kill them. Dr. Chiaro doesn't just want them to see well, he wants them to see good - Even when what's happening before there eyes is pure evil.
