My name is Nabila Babcock. Before age two, polio invaded my hometown and I was one of five that got it. I became basically paralyzed. My mom massaged my whole body with olive oil and hot steam, three times a day, every day for a whole year. My polio went away except for my right leg. It was truly a miracle!! I was able to walk, run and play, except I would fall once in awhile due to weak muscles from polio. I always felt I was special and always had great compassion for our world. I needed to make a difference in life; for others and my lord. At the age of nine, my father took me to the children's hospital. They operated on my muscles, unfortunately, destroying them. I ended up with gangrene, almost losing my leg. I could not walk any more without the assistance of my right hand, holding my leg up above the knee. Basically, I was walking sideways. I never felt like I had a disability. I would tell everyone, "this is an ability," with a smile on my face! Doctors could not believe I didn't develop back problems. I would answer, "why would I? God loves me." At the age of 41, I wore a full leg brace to help me walk upright. The brace has become a necessary part of my life even today. I never allow my leg to limit me in anything. I remember as a child, the lessons I learned. They were imprinted in my mind forever. So hopefully my stories will be imprinted in your minds too. One night, I could not sleep, until I wrote the words down. I feel they were a gift from god to be passed on to you.
