Recovering from a life-altering tragedy, Greg - bright, talented, and formerly-ambitious - has grown to accept life's little curveballs - and even thrive on them - much to the chagrin of his friend (and one-time lover), the now-unhappily-married Yates. After all, what does it profit him to take the world seriously, when the world repaid the courtesy so cruelly? No. Better to glide through his existence now: job, sleepless nights, whatever.

But now a mysterious, half-mad, figure crosses Greg's path. The pair become inextricably bound, sending Greg on a nocturnal comic quest to recover something that the madman has taken from him, something that truly does still matter, something worth risking everything for - even if it means Greg must expose himself to the greatest threats of all: the phantoms of the past, and the demons of the present.
