Annie had only been in Silver Creek a few years, after turning her back on big city life. Now she wanted the independence of her own business, tough as it was.
She gazed at the man reputed to be a hero, back in the small Arizona town after years of life in the big city. He was no longer the skinny kid next door, stealing apples from her uncle and throwing them at the cattle on his father's ranch. Neither handsome nor good-looking properly described him. Perhaps princely or noble more appropriately applied. It would only be a matter of time before he headed back to the bright lights. In the meantime, they played a risky game of love.
Brett was law and order. Annie was not quite innocent. He was a tough ex-FBI agent, out to enforce the law, any law. Annie was a simple apple farmer who couldn't turn away from the two women cast by fate into her care. She just couldn't turn her back on their pleas for help.
She appreciated Brett's assistance and enjoyed his generous attentions. He was a handsome and desirable man. But Annie had something to hide, something that could put her on the other side of the law. It was inevitable that Brett would discover her secret. . . and come to her one day as a lawman instead of her lover.
