Judith married the man who became the master of sinister Craigmore -- only to learn that her husband would sooner kill her than kiss her!
THIS FEAR I FELT WAS STARK AND MERCILESS... with horror I realized that my mind was reduced to a raw, animal state of panic.
The grey Victorian ugliness of the house sprawled before me, and, as always, the windows reminded me forcibly of cold, watchful eyes.
I turned and ran, then, stumbling blindly over the uneven moorland, running, not so much from the eerie menace of the loch, as from the remembrance of the graven moodiness. Afraid, and not knowing of what I was afraid...
Judith lived in fear and terror. As each day passed she became more certain than someone at Craigmore was determined to either kill her or drive her mad.
She wanted to flee, but was penniless. There was nowhere to go and no one to help her.
And so she stayed to fight an unseen menace in a house where no one believed her terror was real, and where she herself hardly dared to trust the man she loved.
