Dameon's family is in desperate need of money along with many others in the grip of the Depression. Hoping for prize money, he hitchhikes from Massachusetts to Lake Placid, New York, to compete in the Olympic speed skating event. Unable to compete, he finds some temporary jobs with the aid of Jamie Preston, a volunteer on the Olympic Host Committee, who offers him a place to sleep at her family's rented farmhouse. He soon discovers this family is not farmers but wealthy business owners from Princeton, New Jersey, with a home in Athens, Greece. Can there be any hope for them when wrongful accusations fly?
