Phantoms in the Night — Les Savage Jr.

1845 California was still a Mexican colony with tensions mounting against the USA. Ports were closed to American ships and the US consul was missing. Army special agent John Hayward is called in and then lands in prison for resisting arrest. He was soon paroled to work on a nearby ranch for the beautiful owner, and he could pursue his mission to find the missing consul.
