Storm Prey by John Sandford
This time, there's a storm brewing...Very early, 4:45, on a bitterly cold Minnesota morning, three big men burst through the door of a hospital pharmacy, duct-tape the hands, feet, mouth, and eyes of two pharmacy workers, and clean the place out. But then things swiftly go bad, one of the workers dies, and the robbers hustle out to their truck -- and find themselves for just one second face-to-face with a blond woman in the garage: Weather Karkinnen, surgeon, wife of an investigator named Lucas Davenport.

Did she see enough? Can she identify them? Gnawing it over later, it seems to them there is only one thing they can do: Find out who she is, and eliminate the only possible witness...

I've read all this writers books as a DL from since #1 in series. I am now on this one which is three from the newest one which was written in 2012. That is called Stolen Prey. Once I'm done I will try his Virgil Flowers series next, which is a character that came from this serie of Lucas Davenport. These plots are located mostly in Minnesota with its cold harsh winters and it's shorter hot & humid summers. Great characters become even more realistic on audio with their voices done by narrator Richard Ferrone. It's a fun series which is a police procedural with lots of action, mystery and suspense. These are enjoyable on audio, but I have never read it as a book forum. These are a popular series, in which some are better than others, but still a great read.
