Was it Luc's father, Giles, his brother Tobie, or his disturbing cousin Romain?

Mysterious Letter from a Friend in Danger

You'll probably think it rather sudden, but I think I've fallen in love. Honestly, if you saw him yourself, I bet you'd do the same. He's beautiful -- if you can call a man beautiful, in the wickedest way. I know it's stupid and rather dangerous, knowing what I do about him, and I doubt if he cares a fig for me, or any woman come to that, but one never does the sensible, don't you find? Mother would have a fit is she knew I'd been alone with him. He's the sort mothers are very wary of where their daughters are concerned, but manage to find devastating themselves with all their experience to fall back on. I haven't been able to tell yet whether it's me he's interested in or just the fact that I'm something new in his sphere. It's all very self-contained up here. Everyone knows everyone else and most marriages start in the cradle, so I understand. He's asked me a lot of questions and I think I may only be the route to knowledge. Isn't it unfair? Maybe, once he knows what it is he wants to know, that'll be that. I must tell you what he looks like, just to make you thoroughly jealous.

Oh' blast, there's someone coming upstairs, obviously wanting me. Sorry about the blot, but the candle's just guttered…
