Pride and Prejudice ~~ Jane Austen

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Since its immediate success in 1813, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE has remained one of the most popular novels in the English language. Jane Austen called this brilliant work "her own darling child" and its vivacious heroine, Elizabeth Bennett, "as delightful a creature as ever appeared in print." The romantic clash between the opinionated Elizabeth and her proud beau, Mr. Darcy, is a splendid performance of civilized sparring. And Jane Austen's radiant wit sparkles as her characters dance a delicate quadrille of flirtation and intrigue, making this book the most superb comedy of manners of Regency England. Full Synopsis

This Book is a CONTEMPORARY novel initially written by the Author at about the age of 21 during the Georgian period of the later eighteenth century. It was originally in letter form under the title of 'First Impressions' but was re-edited and eventually published in 1813. This was during the period that became know as the 'Regency' following the appointment in 1811 of the Prince of Wales as 'Prince Regent". The Prince Regent had the full powers of the King during the illness of his father, King George III, until he himself became King George IV in 1820 (upon his father's death).
