About the Author

Hammond Innes was born in Sussex in 1913. He was the author of thirty international bestsellers, all reissued by Pan. He also wrote a superb history of the Conquistadors, two books of his world travels and sailing, and an evocative illustrated book on East Anglia. It was in the early fifties, with books like The Lonely Skier, Campbells Kingdom, The White South and The Wreck of the Mary Deare, all of them filmed, that he achieved international fame.
Hammond Innes died in June 1998.
