One warm night four children stood in front of a bakery. No one knew them. No one knew where they had come from.

Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny used to live alone in a boxcar. Now they have a home with their grandfather, and a chance to be in a real play -- The Wizard of Oz!

Jessie is chosen for the Cowardly Lion. Benny will play a munchkin. Even Watch has a part and all the Aldens are helping with the show. Then mysterious things begin to happen. Someone makes a threatening phone call and a costume is destroyed.

Maybe the show won't go on -- unless the Boxcar Children can solve the mystery before opening night!
