Description
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des RÍves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway -- a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love -- a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.

True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus per≠formers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.

Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.

This book is probably the most unique book that I've ever read. It is a wonderful and magical tale of love, friendship, death and life. The prose is so exquisitely written that it feels like a dream right from the first page. Ms. Morgenstern's prose and her descriptions are fantastic. There are a lot of descriptions, but never once did I find any of them to be overdone or unbelievable. I think the most amazing thing about this book is the way that she weaves these very disparate characters into one story. I'm sure I've never read a book with as many varied characters as this one has, and each one is so extraordinary and so realistic that I felt that I had an intimate knowledge of each and every one of them. I swear that each time I put the book down, I had to blink to come back to reality. I was so taken in by this wonderful night circus and its many wondrous sights that it felt like I was there experiencing this amazing and magical circus. This is a book like no other. It is a marvelous creation and it lives up to all the hype surrounding it. I'm not sure that I can come back to reality with my choice of reading material after this one. (Not for awhile anyway) It left me shaken and wanting more and I am sure that there is no other book anywhere like this one.
