Searching in the fetid coastal swamps of Georgia's Low Country, he enters a rarely trespassed world where human life is a cheap commodity and where the seamiest side of the sex trade lures desperately poor girls into sordid slavery.

Aided by the relentless Detective Patricia Latham and a fundamentalist preacher whose own granddaughter has vanished into the depths of the skin trade, Tanner must overcome soul-blackening corruption and confront the most inhuman degradation to accomplish his mission.
