The Flip Side of Forever is a story that explores human nature and mental illness. Set in 1961, it is the story of Hamilton "Ham" Springs, a man who is by all outward appearances an ordinary guy. But on the inside, Ham is anything but normal-he's a walking time bomb with a hidden history of violent behavior. Under mysterious circumstances, he leaves his home in Texas with his 16-year-old stepdaughter, Julie, and sets out across the country in search of a new life. Ham and Julie settle into the coastal Oregon town of Port Terminus, but Ham cannot escape his past, and a new relationship threatens to bring back his sickness. After another violent episode, Ham and Julie leave town and head back toward home, with Ham knowing all the while that they cannot return. Isolated with Julie, Ham's compulsions have no outlet, and he walks the razor-edge between his love for his daughter and the urges smoldering inside him, undeniable urges that compel him to kill again.

In his debut novel, David Benz fuses a lifelong love of fiction with his rich and often disturbing experiences on the job as a paralegal in the health care industry. He currently resides in Phoenix, Arizona.
