In 1968, Southeastern Indiana, small town sheriff Jonah Traynor's tranquil life is turned upside down by two drug-related murders that bring big city gangsters and probing Federal agents into Ferrell County. Jonah and his deputies, steady and reliable Dale Baker and the hapless Johnny Coats, are in over their heads and find themselves cooperating with a New York crime boss who is working with Federal Authorities. Things become complicated when a new young priest, Father Sylvester Belleau, arrives in town. Father Belleau, raised in a New Orleans orphanage and taken under the wing of a benevolent benefactor, has a secret past filled with lust, murder, and mayhem. When the young priest, who believes he is doing God's work on earth by ridding society of evil, gets involved with affairs in Ferrell County things quickly spiral out of control. The story Jonah Traynor, Sheriff is filled with twists and turns leaving the reader in the dark until the final chapter.
