Erin and Ewere are best friends. Erin's family is from Ireland, while Ewere's family is from Nigeria. One day, Mrs. Grey informs her fourth-grade class that they will be working on a project about leaves from different parts of the world. Erin and Ewere know exactly what they would like to present on. Erin chooses to present on the shamrock, an important leaf in Ireland that represents luck. Ewere's leaf, the ewere, also represents luck.

Even though Erin and Ewere are from very different cultures, they find that they have a lot in common. As they each explore the background of the leaves they've chosen for research, Erin and Ewere learn that though their countries celebrate differently, both find reason to celebrate luck and goodness.

Best Friends and Good Luck Leaves offers parents an excellent opportunity to promote understanding in children's development. Help teach your children that no matter how different your cultural heritage may be, understanding the similarities between individuals promotes the strongest friendships.
