About the Author

Anne Perry, born October 28 1938, died April 11 2023

Anne Perry (born Juliet Hulme in 1938) is an English author of historical detective fiction. In 1954, at the age of fifteen, she was convicted of participating in the murder of her friend's mother. She changed her name to "Anne Perry" after serving a five-year sentence.

Anne’s publishing career began in 1979 with "The Cater Street Hangman," featuring the Victorian policeman Thomas Pitt and his well-born wife Charlotte. In 2017 she released the 32nd book in the Pitt series, and began a new series featuring their son Daniel. In 1990, Anne started a second series of detective novels with "The Face of a Stranger." These are set about 35 years prior to the Pitts, and feature the mysterious private detective William Monk and volatile nurse Hester Latterly.

Anne won an Edgar award in 2000 with her short story “Heroes”. The main character in the story features in a five-book series set during the First World War, which were published between 2003 and 2007.
