Synopsis: Don Taylor is the pride of his family, and the local hometown football hero, until he breaks his wrist in the very first game of his senior year. It's not easy being on the sidelines while Bill Cobb runs the plays that have designed for him. Don's dad, Bill Taylor has been a football coach for more years that he wants to admit, and wants this to be his crowning year for the team, his son, and for himself. This team from Pulaski County High School had been together ever since junior high and was just peaking at the right time. Each year had been better than the year before. The team wanted and expected nothing but a state championship. But with Don out and transfer Bill Cobb upsetting the team chemistry, it just doesn't feel the same. Don returns to lead the team late in the season, and senior transfer student, Bill Cobb, is dismissed from the team for skipping classes and poor academic progress. Cobb transfers and plays for a rival, seeming to have put his past on hold. Don has a great season after healing enough he can play. Bill Cobb gets a lot of attention, and seems to be as good as he thinks he is. Don continues to get word that Cobb still holds a grudge against both Don and Coach Taylor. When Cobb threatens to attend the same college as Don so he can try to humiliate, and embarrass Don, football just doesn't seem as much fun as before, until Don and Bill bury the hatchet and realize that in order to win games both their talents are needed if Oakton University is to make it to the Pecan Bowl.
