Woman in the Tower is a novel of fairy tales told to a man in the throes of a life crisis. In a series of increasingly strange and challenging encounters he explores the mysteries of his own soul and that of the world and all its inhabitants. The arc of the tales not only displays his path to a greater understanding of his place in the world, but also explores the nature of fairy tale as more than just stories for children but scripts for how we live our lives. We have an interior fairy tale we tell ourselves. Are we princess or scullery maid? The lost little girl or the enchanted queen? You are the fairy tale character you believe you are. Author Richard Lance Williams was inspired by Pacifica Graduate Institute classes on Folklore & Fairy Tales and Mythopoetic Expression as well as the movie The Saragasso Manuscript, a 1970's Polish ghost movie.
